Just north of Liverpool the National Trust maintains Formby’s woodlands, home to a population of red squirrels, helping to protect this adorable native species.  Here, rendered as a wood-cut, a squirrel climbs on an ivy-clad oak, with Formby dunes and billowing clouds in the distance.  With a background in scientific illustration, David Montagnes has spent the last 25 years working as an ecologist at the University of Liverpool.
