The spiders web stretched across the Liver Building in this shot has woven itself into Liverpools cultural history twice in the last few years. A potent symbol of the citys cultural regeneration, first La Machines La Princesse, a 50 ft mechanical spider, roamed the city centre for three days in September 2008. The spectacular show brought thousands of spectators into the streets of the city, pre-empting the enormous success of the Sea Odyssey event in 2012.
Later the same month, Chinese artist Ai Wei Wei stretched a vast, spiders web with a crystal spider at its centre over Exchange Flags as part of the 2008 Biennial of Contemporary Art.
