The Penny Lane Barber Shop

The Penny Lane Barber Shop

Bioletti’s is the barbershop that features in the lyrics of ‘Penny Lane”, like nearly all of the places referred to in the song, the shop was not on Penny Lane itself but on Smithdown Place, overlooking the ‘roundabout’ with the bus shelter. Whilst waiting at the bus shelter, Paul McCartney jotted down the things he saw. He later turned these notes into the song.
In Penny Lane, there is a barber showing photographs
Of every head he's had the pleasure to know
And all the people that come and go
Stop and say, "Hello"
The barbershop is still there, but now called Tony Slavins it still looks much the same internally as when the Beatles used to sit and wait for a trim.
